The Follow up Survey Report on Knowledge, Attitude and Behavior of Women toward Child Health and Tetanus Neonatorum in Rural Area.

Abstract
Korean Pediatric Association carried out a nation-wide campaign program for the eradication of neonatal tetanus cases through home-visiting health education program, also, by using of mass communication medias such as newspapers, women magazines, radio and television networks.
Concomitantly the nation-wide survey was performed to obtain information on knowledge and attitudes of Korean rural women towards the child health and the prevention program of tetanus neonatorum and the results were reported previously by Prof. Choe, Hahn Woong.
This time, in I976, after four years the follow-up survey was carried out to obtain the difference between the data previously reported and this year¢¥s one. 205 house-wives dwelling in Yang Yang County, Kang Won-Do and 75 in Nan Kog-Dong, Young Dung Po-Ku, Seoul were interviewed. Comparing with the previous report, the results were discussed and summrized as follows:
1. In previous report, peak frequency distribution of age interval of interviewed women was in the range of 35^39 years group, that of this survey was in the range of 30^34 years group. Educational background of interviewed women were improved a little. The other aspects of general features of interviewed women were almost similar.
2. The degree of awareness of the tetanus neonatorum has fairly improved. In former survey, only 12.20% of interviewed women responded to know a little or some of this disease and in this survey 36, 07% of interviewed women knew a little or some of it. Still inert attitude of rural women to children¢¥s health and welfare has changed a little. Among the motivation of getting this knowledge, 34.65% got through neighbors and 21.78% got through their own experiences. This result suggests the urgent needness of village campaign program.
3. Awareness of cause and symptom and aspects of aseptic practice of cutting and finding materials and wound treating have not improved remarkably.
4. As to the awareness of our 1972 year¢¥s campaign program, only 12.14916 responded "yes" and motivation of getting to know the program, 38.245v. got to know through radio-network¢¥s campaign program and 20.59% did through health center¢¥s workers. Among the mass health education medias, the radionetworks were presumed to be the most effective one.
